AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A 33-year-old labor lawyer from Portland is the new chairman of the Maine Democratic Party.

The Maine Democratic State Committee on Sunday elected Benjamin Grant to the two-year post. He succeeds John Knutson, of Brooklin.

Grant practices labor and employment law at the McTeague Higby law firm in Topsham.

Before joining the firm, he was an aide to state Senate Presidents Beth Edmonds and Beverly Daggett and served as director of the Maine Senate Campaign Committee during the 2004 election campaign. He’s also worked on other campaigns in both Maine and New Hampshire.

Former Maine Attorney General Janet Mills was elected vice-chairwoman.
