ORONO — David Warsofsky’s goal 3:43 into the third period capped a three-goal comeback as Boston University edged Maine, 4-3, in Hockey East action Friday night.
BU scored three unanswered goals after Tanner House’s power play goal gave Maine a 3-1 lead 6:36 into the second period. Alex Chiasson started the comeback 11:46 into the second to make it 3-2. Wade Megan followed 28 seconds later with the tying goal.
Spencer Abbott scored twice for the Black Bears (12-7-6, 9-5-4 Hockey East), who were 1-for-6 on the power play. Corey Trivino had the other goal for the Terriers (11-7-5, 8-5-3), who were 0-for-7 on the power play.
Shawn Sirman made 23 saves for Maine, while Kieran Milan stopped 34 shots in net for BU.
Womens’ Basketball
Bates 69, Wesleyan 49
LEWISTON – Bates used a 13-2 run to open up the second half en route to a 69-49 victory over Wesleyan in womens’ NESCAC basketball action.
The Bobcats doubled up the Cardinals 42-21 in the second half to seal the victory. Taryn O’Connell scored 11 of her season high 13 points in the second half. O’Connell also connected on a trio of 3-point buckets. Christine McCall and Meredith Kelly each contributed with 11 points in the victory.
Bates out rebounded the Cardinals (6-11) 42-36 getting a game high 11 rebounds from Jessie Igoe.
Wesleyan was led by Eileen Gaffney with 16 points and nine boards. Kendra Harris chipped in with 12 points in the loss.
Men’s basketball
Bates 70, Wesleyan 59
LEWISTON — Senior Brian Ellis recorded 19 points to lead Bates to a 70-59 victory over Wesleyan in NESCAC men’s basketball action Friday.
The Cardinals (9-10) built a seven-point lead in the first half as Bates went scoreless over a five-minute span late in the period. But, Bates slapped back with a 9-0 run and a 24-22 lead at the break.
The Bobcats (11-9) kept its momentum going in the early part of the second half, hitting its first five shots in the period, including a dunk by Alex Gallant. Nick Schmiemann and Gallant scored 12 points apiece in the winning effort.
