Auburn buys building to serve as temporary fire station while new public safety headquarters is built

The city purchased 67 Kittyhawk Ave. for $1.3 million to be used while a new home for the city’s police and fire departments is constructed.

The fire Monday destroyed much of a building at 39 James St.

The fire started on the top floor, the Auburn fire inspector said Friday, and the flames heavily damaged Dragan Field Disc Golf on the bottom floor.

A box truck rolled over a guardrail and then slid down an embankment in the three-vehicle pileup shortly after midnight Friday.

The vests will add an extra layer of protections for firefighters who are sometimes called to dangerous situations.

A pile of rubble and melted siding was all that remains Tuesday at the once bustling construction site.

The cause is under investigation by the Auburn Fire Department and Office of State Fire Marshal.
