Is Maine’s enthusiasm for fireworks fizzling out?

The number of stores in the state has been declining since 2018, and after an uptick during the pandemic, sales have slowed as well.

This has been an unusually active year for northern lights, so it seems fitting for the year to end with another display locally.

It was unseasonably warm as thousands flocked to Auburn’s Festival Plaza for the 6th annual New Year’s Eve bash.

The 6th annual event is set to feature live music, breweries, food trucks and a fireworks display over the falls.

With 2025 around the corner, Lewiston residents weigh their options for ringing in the new year to Sun Journal.

Dance parties, live music, kids’ celebrations and a blueberry drop are among the options for ringing in 2025 around southern Maine.

‘We get (nonalcoholic) sparkling cider in champagne flutes and (the kids) all get to do their midnight toast,’ said party organizer Heather White.

City officials said the annual celebration is one of the only remaining city-organized New Year’s celebrations that is free to attend.

An estimated 5,000 people attended the fifth New Year’s Auburn and first drone light show.
